Welcome to the National School.

As our name suggests, the National School is a member of the National Society, an agency of the Church of England which was set up in the 19th century to provide education for those who could not afford private schooling. As a Christian school, our aim is simple: to help all our pupils ‘to have life – life in all its fullness’. (John, 10.10).

How do we seek to achieve this? By giving our pupils opportunities to succeed academically: by challenging them to develop their imaginations: by supporting their development physically, morally, socially, and, importantly, spiritually; and by opening their eyes to the value of learning, so that long after they have left school they will continue to learn and to grow as people.

As well as being a faith school in the tradition of the Church of England, The National is a specialist technology college. What this means is that we offer a broad range of technology subjects within the curriculum, and technology is used to support other areas, but especially mathematics and science. Because we have a Christian ethos, we argue for the responsible use of technology, in a way that is demonstrably sustainable and friendly to our God-made environment.

The National is in a ‘soft’ federation with Tuxford School, in the north of the county. This collaboration has brought many benefits to both schools, and continues to do so. You can read more about this collaboration if you follow the links to the NTLC page in the website.

This is a school with a strong academic tradition, a desire to be inclusive, a tradition of service to the community, good facilities, good teachers, and great pupils. In August 2009, over 70% of our pupils gained 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C. We are determined to do better, and will continue to work hard to improve standards for our pupils at all levels.

If you would like to know more about us, please use this website, or contact the school via email. We look forward to hearing from you.
